The Architecture files (. audx) contain all the information ApexSQL Audit requires to set up Auditing on your database. They are XML based files that contain tags for a variety of template attributes like Name and Description as well as a tag for each of the major scripts required to run ApexSQL Audit, for example the DDL script to set up the Auditing tables.
ApexSQL Audit ships with a complete, ready to use Architecture Profile ( ApexSQL.audx) that you can use unmodified and which should fit the needs of most customers. It will be opened by default by ApexSQL Audit.

To view and edit an architecture file's SQL Script tags and Architecture Name and Architecture Description attributes, open the "Manage Audit Architecture" form in the Outlook Bar as shown here.

If an architecture file has already been loaded by ApexSQL Audit this form will open pre-populated. Note: Architecture Name and Architecture Description text boxes are filled out and all of the script nodes are enabled (
), meaning they contain SQL Scripts. If any nodes are disabled (
) then this means scripts are missing.

This node does not contain a SQL Script, it was never populated or has been cleared by the user.

Tech Tip:
To commit any final changes to the Audit Profile (. audx) file itself you must Save the Architecture file via the main form.
|
Editing and Saving individual scripts in memory will not automatically save the Audit Profile. This two-step process allows you to close the Manage Architecture file with the option to not save the changes you have made.

Finally, the Manage Architecture form will allow you to Install, Remove and Analyze your architecture file just the way it can be done in the "Install Architecture" form. This will let you quickly test and check your changes if you are making significant changes to an existing profile or creating a new one.
